    What is Breast Augmentation?

Some women are unhappy with the size, shape, or asymmetry of their breasts. Other women may lose breast volume as a result of aging, weight loss, or pregnancy. Breast augmentation, sometimes called a “boob job” by patients, is a procedure that increases the size of your breasts. There are different types of breast augmentation procedures, including using breast implants or fat transfer.

At PureSculpting Aesthetic Centers, our plastic surgeons perform fat transfer breast augmentation, which requires only a local anesthetic and no scalpel or sutures. It’s a quick, outpatient procedure done at our centers in Jacksonville and Tampa that produces natural-looking and -feeling results. The guide below provides more information about how the procedure is performed and who may be a good candidate.

If you’d like to increase the size of your breasts, achieve a more rounded breast shape, or improve the symmetry of your breasts, schedule a free, no-obligation consultation for fat transfer breast augmentation today. Appointments are available in Jacksonville and Tampa.

What is Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation?

Rather than inserting silicone or saline implants, a fat transfer breast augmentation uses fat from another part of your body to create increased breast volume. This procedure has the benefit of enhancing the size of your breasts while also reducing unwanted fat deposits from other areas of your body.

At PureSculpting, our plastic surgeons use our LipoSculpting liposuction procedure to remove the fat that will be transferred to your breasts. LipoSculpting is a minimally invasive procedure that uses vibration energy to break down and remove fat cells from the stomach, hips, arms, or any other area of the body that has unwanted fat deposits. Since LipoSculpting does not rip, tear, or cut your body, there is no scarring at the area of treatment.

Once removed, the fat cells are purified to ensure only healthy fat remains. Next, the healthy fat is transferred to your breasts, where it is shaped to give the breasts more volume, contour, and symmetry. Patients are awake during a fat transfer breast augmentation, and a local anesthetic is used to prevent discomfort at the areas of treatment.

Because a fat transfer breast augmentation is less invasive than breast implant surgery, there is a shorter recovery period, and most patients return to full activities within a few days. The length of a fat transfer breast augmentation procedure on average is two hours. The results are enlarged breasts with a natural look and feel.

How is the Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation Procedure Performed?

The procedure starts with an initial consultation between you and your plastic surgeon. During the consultation, your plastic surgeon will work with you to understand your goals for breast augmentation and how best to achieve them. You’ll also discuss your overall body-shaping goals, including which areas of the body the fat will be transferred from. Based on your goals and body type, our plastic surgeon will recommend donor areas for fat transfer. Many patients choose to remove and transfer fat from their abdomen, hips, or arms.

The procedure begins with the plastic surgeon applying a local anesthetic to the donor areas of the body. Next, the surgeon uses the LipoSculpting device to break down and remove fat cells from these areas with vibration energy. The removed fat cells then undergo a purification process to eliminate unhealthy tissue.

Next, the surgeon transfers the remaining healthy fat cells to the breasts. The transferred fat enlarges the breasts, at which point the surgeon shapes the fat to create natural-looking roundness and contour in the breasts. After the procedure, your plastic surgeon will discuss postoperative care instructions with you.

Fat Transfer vs. Implants for Breast Augmentation

The two most common procedures for breast augmentation are breast implant surgery and fat transfer. At PureSculpting, we offer fat transfer breast augmentation because the procedure is less invasive, carries less risk, and often produces more natural-looking results. Silicone or saline breast implant surgery involves using a foreign material—the implant—to enlarge the breasts. With any foreign material, there is a risk that the body will reject it, leading to complications. Since fat transfer breast augmentation uses your body’s natural fat as a filler, there is less risk of the body rejecting it.

Saline or silicone breast implants also require more invasive surgery than a fat transfer. Fat transfer breast augmentation requires only a local anesthetic, and the patient remains awake, while breast implant surgery requires sedation with general anesthesia, which carries more risk.

Breast implants also require incisions so the implant to be inserted at the base of the breast. As a result, breast implant patients typically have scarring and can also experience side effects like diminished sensitivity of the breast or nipple area.

Fat transfer breast augmentation does not require scalpel incisions, so there is no scarring and less risk of side effects. In terms of the final results, both breast implants and fat transfers can enhance the size, shape, and symmetry of breasts. However, breasts enhanced using fat transfer tend to have a more natural look and feel compared to saline or silicone implants.

Who Is a Candidate for Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation?

Anyone bothered by the size, shape, or asymmetry of their breasts can be a candidate for breast augmentation. These individuals may also have additional body-shaping goals to reduce fat in another part of the body, such as the abdomen, hips, or arms.

This procedure may be right for you if:

    • You feel your breasts are too small
    • You are unhappy with your breasts losing volume or shape due to aging, pregnancy, or weight loss
    • You feel your breasts are asymmetrical
    • Your breasts failed to develop normally or have an elongated shape
    • You are dissatisfied with the upper part of your breasts looking empty

Since getting breast augmentation is a personal decision, it’s important to have realistic expectations and a desire to do the procedure for yourself, rather than for anyone else.

Women seeking a breast augmentation should be in good physical health, have fully developed breasts, and should not be not pregnant or breastfeeding.

Additionally, the ideal candidate for this procedure will also have:

    • A healthy weight, or close to a healthy weigh
    • Overall good health
    • No serious illnesses or diseases
    • Firm skin with good elasticity
    • Good muscle tone

Individuals who smoke, take blood thinners, or other prescription medications should consult with your plastic surgeon before undergoing a fat transfer breast augmentation.

If you’re considering breast augmentation, the first step is to have a consultation with one of our plastic surgeons in Jacksonville or Tampa to discuss your goals, suitability for the procedure, as well as the risks of the procedure.

Additionally, it can be helpful to review photos of past patients’ results and learn about the recovery process so you know what to expect from your fat transfer breast augmentation.

How Do I Prepare for My Breast Augmentation Procedure?

Preparation for breast augmentation is very simple for most patients. During your preoperative appointment, your plastic surgeon will discuss your plan of action to ensure your procedure is in alignment with your health and recovery. Every patient’s preparation is customized specifically to their health history.

What is the Breast Augmentation Recovery Process Like?

In general, fat transfer breast augmentation patients experience some bruising, swelling, and soreness in the breasts after the procedure, but these symptoms usually subside within a week or less. To maintain the shape of your breasts and promote healing after the procedure, you will be asked to wear a compression garment and supportive bra for six weeks.

After your fat transfer breast augmentation procedure, you’ll receive aftercare instructions from the plastic surgeon that you’ll need to follow in order to ensure your recovery goes well. These may include to:

    • Keep the wound clean
    • Avoid showering until your doctor says otherwise
    • Avoid motions that are likely to aggravate the wound
    • Follow any other precautions that your doctor recommends

How Much Does Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation Cost?

Every fat transfer breast augmentation procedure is different, so the cost varies based on the amount of fat transfer performed, the health of the patient, and the plastic surgeon chosen. The average cost of a fat transfer breast augmentation in Jacksonville or Tampa begins around $4,500 for the fat transfer only.
